Fitness Questions

  1. I'm trying to lose weight, should I train twice a day?
  2. Why do I need to exercise for more then 20 minutes if I'm trying to lose weight?
  3. Someone told me I should lift weights to lose weight but I don't want to get big muscles, is weight training good or bad?

  1. I'm trying to lose weight, should I train twice a day?
    • If you're not used to training regularly, training twice a day,  everyday, can sometimes put your body into overkill and you'll just  wear yourself out. If you stick to a 30 minute (minimum) session, once  a day, 3-4 times per week, you will see your results soon enough but  you won't get tired and bored of exercising.

  2. Why do I need to exercise for more then 20 minutes if I'm trying to lose weight?
    • Approximately, in the first 20 minutes of every work out, your body usess energy from the food you have eaten. After 20 minutes, the body will start 'burning' fat to use for energy. Thus, to lose weight, it is advisable to do a minimum of 30 minutes or more once initial fitness levels are achieved.

  3. Someone told me I should lift weights to lose weight but I don't want to get big muscles, is weight training good or bad?
    • Firstly, it is important to understand that there are different types of weight training techniques. Big guys that 'bulk up' lift heavy weights with very little repetitions. To assist with weight loss, you need to lift weights to the muscle endurance formula. This means that light weights and more repetitions is the key to 'toning up'. By performing muscle endurance weight training with a good portion of cardio exercise, you will greater your chances of burning fat faster and toning up without bulking up!!
