SUPPLEMENTS AND WHATS IN IT FOR YOU!

There are many reasons why you should take supplements and all of those reasons are determined on your fitness goals. Essentially when you workout, you break down muscle fibers which, as your body recovers become stronger. In order to help your muscles repair and recover quickly, protein is needed.

There are so many types of proteins and supplements on the market, it is extremely hard to know what supplements to take to assist you in your fitness goals. So I am going to break it down and use my experience to help assist you in choosing the right supplements.

Weight loss and building lean muscle

It may seem counter intuitive that whilst you are trying to lose weight (stored fat) that you would take a product that also assists in gaining weight (lean Muscle), but it is vital.

A quality protein before and/or after a workout will provide your body with the specific protein you need to build lean muscles and aid you in recovery.

Protein can be sourced from many different foods such as – lean beef, skim milk, egg whites, fat free cottage cheese, lean chicken, nuts in moderate amounts and turkey. The only problem with naturally protein rich foods is they are classed as “slow-digesting” which means they take hours for your body to process.

Supplements such as Whey protein is a powdered form of the watery part of cows milk after curds have formed. This form of protein is classed as “fast-digesting”, which means it reaches your muscles quickly. Supplements should be taken no later than 30 minutes after your workout for maximum benefit.

Compared to only eating protein rich foods it is shown that supplement users are able to control when their muscles are “fed”. Without using supplements for your protein intake your appetite may increase dramatically as your body searches for these proteins in your diet. To rely on your normal diet to provide these proteins is unrealistic for most people.

The net result; Taking a protein supplement as part of you fitness plan will greatly assist results, recovery and in maintaining your calorie intake and appetite.

We hope this information has helped assist you in improving your understanding of supplements.
