5 COMMON FITNESS QUESTIONS – ANSWERED!

When should I exercise?

It all depends on when you have time to fit exercise in. Some people are morning people and find getting out of bed to do a half hour or hour workout easy, while others prefer working out in their lunch break or after work. What matters most is how efficiently you use that time. If you only have time for a 15 minute workout then make sure it’s a quick high intensity workout. That way you will still get great results in half the time.

Should I warm up before exercise?

I can not stress enough how important it is to warm up before you exercise. The reason you warm up is to get your muscles ready for higher intensity movements. This helps you be more flexible and will reduced your risk of injury. Your warm up can consist of a light 10 minute exercise on the treadmill or bike. It’s also a good idea to stretch your arms and legs after you have finished on the bike or treadmill.

Can I snack before exercise?

You can snake before you exercise as long as it is something small and not too heavy. Fruit, a muesli bar, brown bread or a sugary drink are all great snacks before a workout. These snacks will help give you an energy boost and will also keep your energy level constant throughout your workout.

Do I need to Stretch?

Stretching is a great way to improve your flexibility, balance and posture. To stretch properly you should hold each pose for 10 to 20 seconds. Only stretch the muscle until you feel a slight pull of resistance. Stop if you feel pain. When doing strength exercises, stretching is a great way to help relieve muscle tightness.

Should I cool down after exercise?

Cooling down is just as important as warming up, as it helps reduce muscle injury, stiffness and soreness. To cool down you need to lower your heart rate slowly, while you’re still moving. You can do this by using the treadmill or exercise bike on a slow setting for 10 minutes. Afterwards is also a great time to stretch and loosen your muscles to improve flexibility.
